History

Dr M Chandrasekhar International Foundation was established in 4th Jan 2016 as the Chandrasekhar Mannam Charity School of Social Work. In 2016, it was renamed as the Dr M Chandrasekhar International Foundation. The year 2016 was an important landmark in the history of the Research Institute, when it was declared International Foundation affiliated to United Nations NGO Branch ECOOSC. Since its inception, the Vision of the Dr M Chandrasekhar International Foundation has been to be an institution of excellence in higher education that continually responds to changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge, towards creating a people- centred, ecologically sustainable and just society that promotes and protects dignity, equality, social justice and human rights for all.
Since then, Dr M Chandrasekhar International Foundation has become the leading voice on ending hunger in Asia and Africa.
The Dr M Chandrasekhar International Foundation works in over 123+ countries around the world. We currently operate over 3,000 programmes and institutions − many of which date back over 55 years, and some over 90.
We employ approximately 85,000 people, the majority of whom are based in developing countries. Our annual budget for non-profit development activities is approximately $55 billion. Our economic development arm, the Dr M Chandrasekhar International Foundation, reinvests all surpluses generated by its project companies into further development activities, usually in fragile, remote or post-conflict regions.
